My name is Therese Kolongo and I started Autism Congo because Autistic children in my home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, children and families do not have access to the resources we have here in the United States that have allowed my child Emile to thrive.
The day I was told that my son has Autism, I died inside. My dreams as a young mother and wife along with the hope of my child living a healthy and productive life were shattered. It seemed as if I had just received the death penalty without committing a crime! I had feelings of rage, disappointment and fear. I also had strong feelings of humiliation, shame and guilt. I believed that God had removed His hand of blessing from us.
I stopped going to church.
Then one day, after several years of rebellion, I picked up my Bible and opened it to Esther 4:14:
For if you remain silent at this time, relieve and deliverance will arise from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows if perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
Esther 4:14
That day changed my life. I saw for the first time that God gave us this precious little boy as our child so that we can help others; and will not remain silent. God gave me a new vision!
For such a time as this…
